Extreme? I Think So!

I often get accused of using hyperbole as a way to make point. For example, I once said that liberals are racists because they can't imagine minorities could compete without their help. In other words, they believe minorities are inferior. My friend Scott, with whom I used to argue politics and religeon occasionally, nearly lost it when I said that.

However, if you saw 60 minutes last week, you will know how dire things have become. If you didn't here's a link to the podcast. AFL (The Animal Liberation Front) and ELF (The Earth Liberation Front) continue to use terrorist activities as a way to further their efforts. There were two things I noticed about the interview.

1. Ed Bradley never once compared this group to those who bomb abortion clinics. There's an exact correlation. They are both groups who believe they are fighting for those who have no voice, they both believe they are right and the opposition is evil, they are both willing to destroy property and kill to further their cause.
   
2. Ed selected not to interview any environmentalists, like Al Gore. Seems like I remember someone saying conservative pundits bore some responsiblity for radical right wing violence.

I was particularly intrigued by Dr. Jerry Vlasik's comments. If you want a surprise go to this link, then search in the page for "killing."

My wife gets irritated when I say most politicians both on the right and on the left, so believe they are right, that doing virtually anything to further their cause is justified, including killing. I believe most politicians, if they knew killing me and my family would guarantee an increase in their personal power and that they would not get caught would not hesitate to do so. Vlasik believes, if you eat meat, in other words, if you choose to live your life differently then him, he should be permitted to kill you. It's frightening to realize the radicals of today become the leaders of tomorrow.

Well, next week is the 4th of July, a day when we celebrate freedom. So do me a big favor. Have a huge steak or a roasted chicken, lift your fork high and repeat with me, "They can't take away my freedom!"
